OK so Gala may not be the prettiest but we have a great community, a strong community council headed up by Bill White, a decent set of local councillors. How do we together promote tourism?
One of my ideas is to create a Textile trail, a working mill or perhaps a heritage centre that could match up to say the jorvick centre in York. What about a Railway museum ( you can tell I've been to York on holiday ) seriously I think we need a draw an attraction to put Gala on the map.
And whilst I'm at it - The circus is great so shut up Christine Graham - were you never a child??

Tourism is actually easy if the Borders can get their act together.

Look at the recent holday weekend we had 3 large events running together resulting in no accomodation for miles (Jim clark rally - Scooter Festival - equestrian event) all on the same dates. Spread the events out and coordinate bringing more towns and villages into the frey.. We need a Events coordination tourism team that know their stuff to improve the footfall. The sad part is that most people in this sector are very arty-farty airyfairy from experiance... we need good business minds in this role.
We almost had a large Borders/International film festival 8 -10 years ago.The council and other parties couldnt even organise a pen and bit paper....

Dont do another textile museum god thes places are dull... just look at the pencil museum in the lake district.

What about several large events around the southern upland way....
